Jakarta CNBC Indonesia – Taylor Swift's concert caused shocks equivalent to an earthquake in Scotland. This was revealed from data from the British Geological Survey (BGS), published CNBC InternationalFriday (14/6/2024).
Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium saw a record crowd attendance during the weekend concert as the American megastar serenaded the fans. He hummed for approximately 3.5 hours last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The activity of the swifties singing and swaying at the concert, made the earthquake detectable about 4 miles from the event location. At that time it was reported that 73,000 people attended, with additions made every day until the day the concert ended.
“This activity was largely generated by fans dancing to the music and peaked at 160 bpm … at which point the crowd radiated around 80 kW of power,” BGS wrote in a report.
“This is equivalent to about 10-16 car batteries,” he added.
The agency uses sophisticated scientific instruments that are complex enough to identify even the slightest seismic activity from miles away. Despite detecting earthquake vibrations in the stadium, these vibrations were not felt by anyone other than those at the location.
“Swift's songs Ready For It?, Cruel Summer and Champagne Problems produced the most significant seismic activity,” the agency said again.
Meanwhile, Swift's concert has created an economic increase of US$ 98 million (around Rp. 1.6 trillion). More than 40 local businesses were affected by concert visits.
It should be noted that in 2023, Swift's concert in Seattle, USA also recorded a tremor equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake was said to have occurred due to the rumbling and surge of Swifties.
The earthquake dubbed 'Swift Quake' was present based on calculations made by seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, as reported by CNN International. One night of Taylor Swift's concert in Seattle was attended by at least 71 thousand of her fans.
