Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Online Gambling Eradication Task Force (Satgas) was officially formed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), as stated in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 21 of 2024 concerning the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force. The Keppres was signed by Jokowi on Friday (14/6/2024).
The formation of the online gambling task force aims to accelerate the eradication of online gambling activities in a firm and integrated manner in order to protect the public.
“To support efforts to accelerate the eradication of online gambling in an integrated manner, an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force has been formed, which in this Presidential Decree will be referred to as the Task Force,” reads Article 1 of the policy, quoted from CNN, Saturday (15/6/2024).
Article 2 of the Presidential Decree stipulates that the online gambling task force is under and responsible to the president.
Meanwhile, the daily head of prevention and the daily head of law enforcement in carrying out their duties are evaluated by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs as the head of the task force at least every three months or at any time if necessary.

The term of office of the Task Force shall be effective from the date of enactment of this Presidential Decree until December 31, 2024. In the future, the term of office of the Task Force may be extended by Presidential Decree.
“All costs required in carrying out the duties of the Task Force are charged to the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget of the ministry/institution and/or other legitimate and non-binding sources in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations,” the Presidential Decree reads.
The problem of online gambling has recently become a concern for the government. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) reported that online gambling transactions from January to March 2024 reached more than IDR 100 trillion.
PPATK Head Ivan Yustiavandana said that the total turnover of online gambling transactions over the past five years has reached more than IDR 600 trillion.
