Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Stories from the Prophets often serve as lessons and role models for behavior. One of those who learned from the Prophet's attitude was David Steward, a US businessman who has assets of IDR 118 trillion.
The story of the prophet that is used as reading material is Noah, a prophet recorded in the heavenly religion. The most famous story of the Prophet Noah is the tragedy of the great flood. Thousands of years ago, the Prophet Noah received orders from God to build an ark because there would be a big flood that would destroy the earth.
Prophet Noah then made a super large ark that could accommodate humans, animals and plants. During the manufacturing process, Prophet Nuh received hate speech from the public.
He was considered strange because he built a large boat when there were no disasters. Even though he was ridiculed, Prophet Nuh continued to work. When the boat was finished, a great flood came. The ark saved Prophet Noah, his family, people, animals and plants.
The story of the struggle and life values of Prophet Noah was the inspiration for David Steward to do the same thing. Especially if it's not about never giving up.
“When you have big ambitions, people tend to tease you. They often talk and judge you too often. That you shouldn't pursue your dreams and ambitions,” said Steward to Forbes in 2004.
An attitude like that of Prophet Noah was not done without reason. The reason is that David Steward's life has been marked by discrimination and teasing since childhood because he is black and poor.
At school he was segregated by segregation regulations. It's just because he's not white, so he has to live separately.
Then when he grew up and wanted to start a business in the 1990s, he received a lot of ridicule. It's just that, because he had studied the story of the Prophet Noah, the man born July 2 1951 was not afraid. He never gave up and continued with his business idea so that he would no longer be an office employee.
At that time, Steward founded World Wide Technology (WWT) to provide corporate computer technology services. In the 1990s, this service sector was still unfamiliar, so many people ridiculed its actions as what happened to Prophet Noah.
However, he continued his business. He believes that in the future the internet will be a favorite.
Long story short, Steward's business went up and down over time. In the end, Steward's beliefs about his business and the future of computers were proven true.
We all know that this technology is really needed by people in the world. As a result, WWT's business was one of those affected.
Forbes (2022) listed WWT as the 27th largest private company in the US and the largest black-owned company. The revenue reached US$ 17.0 billion or Rp. 265 trillion.
These profits are then in line with David Steward's assets. Forbes (2024) noted that he has assets of US$ 7.6 billion or Rp. 118 trillion, and is among the world's richest people.
