Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – In addition to money, a passport is also needed to be able to travel abroad. Unfortunately, some people in the world are 'born' with weak passports so that it takes extra effort to be able to travel abroad.
The Indonesian passport is ranked 66th. Indonesia's ranking is quite bad when compared to countries that were once part of the Republic of Indonesia, namely Timor Leste, which is ranked 56th, or 10 levels better than Indonesia.
While Indonesian passport holders can only freely enter 78 other countries without a visa, Timor Leste citizens can visit 96 destinations without using a visa.
This is an irony. Because, the power of a passport is one reflection of a country's diplomatic strength. Especially considering that Timor Leste, which only became independent on May 20, 2002, but its passport has already surpassed Indonesia.
Indonesia also lost badly to Malaysia. The neighboring country is in 12th position in the list of the world's strongest passports, far above Indonesia. Malaysians can enter 182 countries, including many in Europe, without the need for a visa.
Another neighboring country, Singapore, even holds the first position as the strongest passport in the world. Singapore's passport ranking is on par with France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain.
This achievement was achieved by Singapore because its passport holders can visit 194 destinations without using a visa.
