Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' attack on Israel, Saturday (13/4/2024).
Guterres also called for an end to hostilities between the two countries, Iran and Israel, which have long been bitter enemies.
“I strongly condemn the serious escalation demonstrated by the massive attack launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israel tonight. I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities,” said Guterres, quoted on Sunday (15/4/2024)
Guterres said he was deeply concerned about the real danger of a devastating escalation across the region. According to him, the world can no longer accommodate war in it.
“I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any actions that could lead to a major military confrontation on various fronts in the Middle East,” he stressed.
“I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war,” he said.
Quoted from Reuters, Iran launched dozens of drone and missile attacks on Israeli territory, Saturday (13/4/2024). This attack increased tensions between the two countries with the US having vowed to support Israel.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said more than 100 drones entered their territory from Iran. Israeli media, Channel 12, revealed that several attacks were launched from Syria and Jordan.
