Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Koran is the main holy book in the Islamic religion. In the Al-Quran there are many instructions from Allah SWT for His servants.
The specialty of the Koran is not only about law, science, faith and monotheism, but it also explains everything that humans need, including natural medicines. Not only that, in this holy book Allah also mentions several types of food, which we can consume and of course have various benefits.
The following are natural foods in the Koran and Hadith that have extraordinary benefits:
1. Ginger
Since thousands of years ago, ginger has been used to treat various diseases. In fact, ginger is said to be the healthiest spice on earth. This herbal plant is also mentioned in the Koran.
“And there they were given a glass of drink mixed with ginger.” – QS Al Insan verse 17.
This verse tells a picture of heaven. Allah said that the inhabitants of heaven will be given drinks mixed with ginger.
Over the years, a number of modern studies have discovered the extraordinary benefits of ginger, ranging from killing bacteria, relieving nausea, treating coughs, lowering blood sugar levels, lowering cholesterol, to reducing the risk of heart disease.
2. Banana
In Surah Al-Waqiah verse 29, Allah mentions bananas as fruit in layers.
“And the righteous, how blessed will they be! They will be amidst thornless lote trees, groves of bananas, broad shade, flowing water, abundant fruit, never in season, and not forbidden” (QS Al Waqiah 27-33)
The Koran makes general mention of the fruits eaten by people in paradise, and specifically mentions bananas telling us that bananas are among the blessed fruits. Bananas are a great addition to breakfast or a morning snack because they are packed with potassium, fiber, vitamin C, magnesium and folate.
Bananas also contain several types of powerful antioxidants, including flavonoids and amines. This antioxidant has many health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and degenerative diseases.
3. Dates
Dates are the plant most often mentioned in the Koran. In the book Mu'jam Al-Mufahras li Al-Fazhil Qur'an, 'Abd al-Baqi explains that in the Qur'an dates are included 20 times in 16 letters.
One of the verses in the holy book that mentions dates is Surah Maryam verses 23-25. These two verses tell the story of the suffering and pain that plagued Maryam when she was about to give birth.
He leaned against the base of a date palm tree. Then Allah, through the angel Gabriel, ordered Maryam to shake the base of the date towards him, then the ripe date fell, to be eaten and as a medicine for pain during childbirth.
Dates contain high fiber and antioxidants. Its nutritional benefits can support brain health and prevent disease.
One of the antioxidants found in dates is phenolic acid. This substance can help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.
Laboratory studies have found dates to be beneficial for reducing inflammatory markers, such as interleukin 6 (IL-6), in the brain. High levels of IL-6 are associated with a higher risk of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's.
4. Olives
Olives are mentioned seven times in the Qur'an. This shows how important this fruit is in the history of the development of Islam.
Olives not only have nutritional, medicinal and cosmetic value; but also fulfills a religious function as a sign of the greatness of Allah SWT.
In Surah Al Mu'minun verse 20, the Koran tells about the fruits that must be eaten, and talks about the olive tree that grows on Mount Sinai which provides oil and spices for eating.
Many people choose oil from olives as a healthier oil choice than palm oil.
Olive oil contains high monounsaturated fatty acids of around 75%. When replacing saturated fat, monounsaturated fat from olives helps lower bad cholesterol.
The health benefits of olive oil are attributed to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
5. Honey
Honey has been used for thousands of years to treat various diseases. In fact, the benefits of honey for health are also explained in the Koran, Surah An Nahl (Bees) verse 69.
“From the stomach of the bee comes out a drink (honey) of various colors, in which there is a healing medicine for humans. Indeed, in this there really is a sign (of God's greatness) for those who think.”
The benefits of honey have also been researched by a number of medical experts. Quoting the Mayo Clinic, a number of studies show that honey has antidepressant, anticonvulsant and anti-anxiety benefits.
The antioxidants in honey can be beneficial for reducing the risk of heart disease. In several studies, honey has also been proven to help prevent memory disorders and treat wounds. Topical use of medical-grade honey has been shown to improve wound healing, especially burns.
6. Figs
The Qur'an has a chapter called Surah At-Tin which means figs. In fact, Allah swears by figs and olives.
References to figs in verses of the Koran speak of the medicinal benefits of the fruit. In Islamic tradition, whatever name is used to swear an oath by Allah has greatness or importance attached to it.
Figs or figs contain pectin, a soluble fiber that helps lower cholesterol levels. Soluble fiber eliminates excess triglyceride levels and helps eliminate triglycerides.
In addition, dried figs contain Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, phytosterols that are cardioprotective and help improve brain health.
7. Habbatus Sauda
Habbatus sauda or black cumin seeds come from a subtropical plant from the Middle East which has been used as medicine for thousands of years.
The specialty of black cumin is also written in one of the hadiths. The Prophet SAW said, “Indeed, in Habatussauda (black cumin) there is a cure for all kinds of diseases, except death.” (Bukhari and Muslim)
The benefits of black cumin are primarily due to its main active compound called thymoquinone, which has demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and other therapeutic properties that protect the body from cell damage and chronic disease.
