“We also input the national governance guidance committee for cooperatives. So we will implement it 100%, some of it has already been implemented. For example, cooperative administrators cannot be chairman of the cooperative for life, including family members in the cooperative,” said Teten when met at the PWI Building. , Jakarta, Wednesday (7/2/2024).
Meanwhile, he continued, the current management structure of cooperatives in Indonesia is still largely managed by the management themselves, with no professional staff in them.
“80% of our cooperatives are still managed by their own management, they don't have professional cooperative managers,” he said.

For this reason, Teten said, his party is currently directing that small-scale cooperatives can be combined into one large-scale cooperative, especially for savings and loan cooperatives.
Furthermore, Teten said that the number of cooperatives in Indonesia was among the largest in the world, namely around 130 thousand cooperatives.
“We are now directing how small (cooperatives) can be merged, (by) increasing their capital by IDR 500 million, so that they can enter a large scale,” he explained.
