Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Starlink has been officially launched by SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, at the Community Health Center, Sumerta Kelod Village, Denpasar, Bali, Sunday (19/5). Thus, the satellite internet service is officially operational in Indonesia.
Starlink internet services have been used in several countries, including Ukraine for war needs.
Musk initially gave his full support to Ukraine when Russia first invaded. At that time, SpaceX provided 4,000 satellites since the start of the war between Ukraine and Russia in 2022.
Russia has rival technology
Russia is reportedly developing new nuclear-based weapons. The weapon was released in space and will impact the internet on Earth.
CNN International, citing three sources, said Russia was developing weapons capable of damaging satellites. The weapon can damage commercial and government satellites for cell phones, online transactions and internet browsing.
According to experts, one of those affected is the internet satellite network spread across space, such as Starlink from SpaceX.
In February, US government officials claimed that the Russian weapons were not yet in orbit. Pihat Russia is still developing today.
For your information, a weapon known as a nuclear EMP will create waves of electromagnetic energy and highly charged particles. The US Department of Defense and the intelligence community have been tracking Russia's development of anti-satellite weapons, including EMP, for years.
But recently, a Washington Post report said the Ukrainian military's Starlink terminal crashed on the first day of Russia's attack on Kharkiv Oblast on May 10. They were defeated by the Russian electronic warfare system.
Citing information obtained from the Ukrainian military, the Ukrainian 125th Territorial Defense Brigade is still capable of defending a stretch of border of around 40 kilometers between Russia and Kharkiv Oblast.
They use surveillance drones every day to monitor how Russia prepares its forces for a possible attack.
But on the morning of May 10, the brigade lost all its video feeds due to Russian electronic interference. Starlink satellite internet terminals, which provide basic communications for the Ukrainian military, also failed. This situation first occurred during the Russian invasion in February 2022.
“We missed a certain point that was completely blind. This is the biggest problem, we don't see how they move, we only work by radio or by telephone where they are still working,” said one of the drone unit commanders in the brigade, quoted from Washington Post, Sunday (25/5/2024).
