Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The apocalypse is a divine decree that is not known when it will occur. However, these signs are starting to appear in one location, namely the Atlantic Ocean.
It is known that the water there is receding and climate change is clearly visible. The researchers discovered the damage through computer models and past data. Researchers are also developing early warning indicators for damage to ocean current systems.
The result is that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) is in sudden change. What's worse, this incident has never happened since more than 10 thousand years ago and its impact will spread to most of the world.
For your information, the AMOC is the Gulf Stream and other strong currents. This is an ocean transport belt that carries heat, carbon and nutrients from the tropics to the Arctic Circle where it cools and sinks into the deep ocean.
This phenomenon will distribute energy throughout the Earth and modulate the impact of human-caused global warming.
Meanwhile, AMOC occurs because glaciers in Greenland and the Arctic ice sheet are melting faster than expected. That way, fresh water flows into the sea and prevents salt water from sinking from the south.
It is recorded that AMOC has continued to decline since 1950, reaching 15%. This is the weakest since a millennium.
Based on research, changes in sea surface temperature will reach a critical point between 2025-2095. However, these findings were denied by the British Meteorological Office.
“Very unlikely to occur in the 21st century,” the agency wrote.
One of the impacts of the collapse of the AMOC is the changing rainy and dry seasons in the Amazon. In the end, this will cause the Earth's temperature to fluctuate much more erratically.
In the southern part of the Earth it will also become warmer. Meanwhile Europe will be cooler with less rainfall.
