Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Samsung is preparing to launch its newest flagship, the Galaxy S24 Series, at 01.00 WIB tomorrow morning, Thursday (18/1/2024).
One of the most significant changes from this cellphone is more comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) technology. At least that's what Samsung is promoting through several teasers.
On the official Samsung Indonesia page, it says 'Galaxy AI is Coming' (Galaxy AI is coming). Samsung seems to want to introduce its newest cellphone with AI features.
Previously, a 6-second teaser video released by Samsung also provided a glimpse of the capabilities of the Galaxy S24 camera which will be equipped with AI technology.
“Zoom with Galaxy AI is coming,” Samsung says in its promotional video.
It appears that the Galaxy S24 camera equipped with AI will display a zoom scale of up to 10x. Apart from that, there is an effect to enlarge objects in an image that resemble comic size.
The example image displayed in Samsung's teaser video shows lowlight conditions for catching hot air balloons.
Low light conditions will usually reduce image quality. However, with a telephoto sensor with a larger resolution and the help of AI technology, the Galaxy S24's shots appear to be more capable.
According to rumors circulating, Samsung will enlarge the sensor for the Galaxy S24 Ultra's telephoto camera, from the previous 10MP to 50MP.
You could say, this AI aspect is an attraction, because it is completely new from last year's Galaxy S23 series.
Leaked specifications for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
Tipster Amal Krishna shared a screenshot showing a comparison of specifications between the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Galaxy S24 Vs Galaxy S23 Screen
The Galaxy S24 screen measures 6.2 inches (FHD+ Flat, 2,600 nits), the Galaxy S24 Plus measures 6.7 inches (QHD+ Flat, 2,600 nits), and the Galaxy S24 Ultra 6.8 inches (QHD+ Flat, 2,600 nits).
Previously, the regular version of the Samsung Galaxy S23 measured 6.1 inches and the Plus variant 6.6 inches. The difference is only 0.1 inch smaller. This will not make a significant difference.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra measures 6.8 inches or the same as the leaked Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Galaxy S24 Vs Galaxy S23 Camera
Another leak states that the Galaxy S24 series has a main camera resolution of 50MP for the regular and Plus variants, and 200MP for the Ultra model. The video recording capability is 8k resolution and the zoom capability can be up to 100x.
In terms of main camera resolution, there is no change from the Galaxy S23 series. Presumably, the improvements will appear in the secondary camera and embedded AI software.
Galaxy S24 Vs Galaxy S23 Design
As leaks suggest, the Ultra variant uses titanium like the iPhone 15 Pro, but the regular and Plus still use aluminum armor.
This is also a significant differentiator from the Galaxy S23 series, which all still use aluminum.
Apart from the materials, the design of the Galaxy S24 series is said to still be similar to the Galaxy S23. The differences will only appear minor.
Galaxy S24 Vs Galaxy S23 Performance
Previous leaks stated that the three Samsung Galaxy AI S24 models were supported by the latest premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset from Qualcomm. However, rumors say countries outside the US, Canada and China will get the regular Galaxy S23 and Plus with the Exynos 2400 chipset.
On the Galaxy S23 series, everything is compact using Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.
Then, regarding the battery, the Super Fast Charging 2.0 feature on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series can charge the battery 50% in 30 minutes for the regular variant. The Plus and Ultra models can be 65% charged in 30 minutes, according to the leak.
The regular Galaxy S24 is said to have a capacity of 4,000 mAh. Meanwhile, the Plus and Ultra variants have 4,900 mAh and 5,000 mAh respectively.
This capacity is slightly increased compared to the regular Galaxy S23 which has a 3,900 mAh battery, Plus 4,700 mAh and Ultra 5,000 mAh.
There is also a water-dust resistance feature with IP68 certification which is still maintained from the previous series.
These various leaks cannot be 100% believed until the Galaxy S24 is actually officially launched. Let's just wait until dawn!
