Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Samsung officially launched the trio of Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, at the 'Galaxy Unpacked' event, which was broadcast live at 01.00 WIB this morning, Thursday (17/1/2024).
One of the new features being heralded is the artificial intelligence (AI) technology embedded in the flagship line.
This AI feature is implemented in several functions on the Galaxy S24 trio, starting from aspects of productivity, photography, to entertainment.
“Galaxy AI was designed based on our innovations from year to year and a deep understanding of how people use smartphones,” said President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business Samsung Electronics, TM Roh.
AI Productivity Features
One of the new features that has been buzzing around before is 'Live Translate'. This feature allows real-time and two-way translation in text and voice formats.
Through this feature, users can make telephone calls with foreign interlocutors, without having to lose the context in communicating.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Series can directly translate the conversation of the person you are talking to via the split-screen display on the cellphone or what is called an 'Interpreter'.
The AI system will immediately provide a transcript of the interlocutor's chat which has been translated via split-screen. The model is something like a teleprompter, namely a transcript that has been translated. This function also does not require an internet connection or WiFi.
Another AI feature on the Galaxy S24 Series is 'Chat Assist'. Its function is to improve the tone of speech when sending messages to colleagues or creating content on social media.
Users can also translate text in email or chat directly into 13 languages via the 'Samsung Keyboard' integration.
For those who have high mobility, the 'Android Auto' feature can also be used to summarize messages entering your smartphone while traveling. Then, the AI system will also provide appropriate response suggestions.
Another productivity supporting feature is 'Note Assist' in Samsung Notes. Users can use it to create summaries, templates, and simplify important notes.
Workers who usually do transcripts, for example journalists or note takers, can also use 'Transcript Assist'. This feature combines AI with speech-to-text. HP can type, summarize and translate voice recordings.
Samsung claims the results remain accurate even if there are many people talking at one time.
To make the experience of searching for information easier, Samsung is collaborating with Google to present the 'Circle to Search' feature. While reading or trying out content, users can underline, highlight, or press anything on the Galaxy S24 Series screen.
Next, Google will provide relevant search results related to what you want to know more about.
AI Photography Features
In the photography sector, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series utilizes AI to improve image processing and editing. Users can edit photos, delete objects, recompose, and polish (remaster) photos that have been shot.
There is an 'Edit Suggestion' feature, where AI will provide suggestions for photo adjustments, so that the results are better. There is also a 'Generative Edit' feature that allows users to fill in the background of an image to rearrange its composition.
For example, when a user shoots a tilted image. AI will fill in the edges so that the image composition can be balanced. Every time the Galaxy S24 uses generative AI to enhance a photo, a watermark will appear on the image.
Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus specifications
The Galaxy S24 screen measures 6.2 inches (FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, refresh rate 120Hz) and the Galaxy S24 Plus measures 6.7 inches (QHD+ Dynamic ALOMED 2X, refresh rate 120Hz).
Previously, the regular version of the Samsung Galaxy S23 measured 6.1 inches and the Plus variant 6.6 inches. The difference is only 0.1 inch smaller. This will not make a significant difference.
The regular and Plus Samsung Galaxy S24 cameras have a resolution of 50MP (wide), 12MP (ultra-wide), and 10MP (telephoto). The front camera has 12MP resolution for selfies and video calls. These hardware specifications are completely identical to last year's regular Galaxy S23 and Plus.
For RAM and memory capacity, the Galaxy S24 comes in three configurations (8/128GB, 8/256GB, 8/512GB). Previously, the Galaxy S23 only came in two RAM and memory options (8/128GB, 8/256GB).
Meanwhile, the Plus variant only has two configurations (12/256GB, 12/512GB). Samsung has increased the RAM option which was previously stuck at 8GB on the Galaxy S23 Plus.
