Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Nokia introduces technology that will change the future of mobile phones. The new technology improves on existing quality.
The technology is called immersive audio and video with a different three-dimensional voice call quality. According to Nokia, its new technology will make calls feel more alive.
The caller will feel like they are in the same place as the receiver, a capability that is different from what is displayed by monophonic, the technology used today.
Monophonic makes the interaction less like the original sound. The audio elements sound more dull and flat.
“We show the future of voice calls,” he explained, quoted by Reuters, Friday (14/6/2024).
Nokia Technologies President Jenni Lukander said the company's new technology would be a big leap compared to monophonic technology. “This is the biggest leap forward in the voice calling experience since the introduction of monophonic telephone audio used on smartphones and PCs today,” he said.
“This is becoming a standard, so network providers, handset manufacturers are starting to implement it in their products,” Lukander added.
What's more sophisticated is that telephone calls with this new technology can be used for group calls. Participants' voices will be able to be separated based on their spatial location.
In the demo carried out, Nokia used a regular 5G smartphone for its new technology. This is also part of the 5G Advanced standard.
It is not yet known when the general public will be able to try this technology directly. But Reuters may still need a long time.
Because Nokia is trying to get a license for the calling technology. It will take years for the technology to be available to the public.
