Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The holy month of Ramadan will arrive soon. The Muhammadiyah Central Management (PP) has determined that 1 Ramadhan 1445 Hijriah will fall on Monday, March 11 2024. Meanwhile, Eid al-Fitr 1 Shawwal 1445 Hijriyah will fall on Wednesday, April 10 2024.
The announcement regarding the determination of Muslim holidays was released in a letter from the Results of the Reckoning of the Tarjih and Tajdid Council of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership for the Beginning of Ramadan, Shawwal and Zulhijah 1445 H
As is generally known, Muhammadiyah uses the reckoning method, which calculates the circulation of the moon, to determine the start of the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr fasts. Meanwhile, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the Government through the Ministry of Religion using rukyat (seeing the circulation of the moon).
In astronomy, reckoning means calculating the geometric positions of the moon and sun. Reckoning has nothing to do with the appearance of the moon.
Through the hisab method, Muhammadiyah can determine when the start of Ramadan falls using calculations, so that the results can be obtained more quickly than if you use the rukyat method, where someone has to observe the appearance of the new moon directly.
