Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Behind a row of hills at the southern tip of Sumatra Island, there is a village that has succeeded in innovation and sustainability in developing local tourism. The village is Kelawi Village which is located in Bakauheni District, South Lampung Regency, Bandar Lampung.
This village, which was only opened in 2000, has a lot of natural, economic and tourism potential. In fact, now, Kelawi Village is quite busy and is known by travelers because of the beauty of one of its beaches, namely Minang Rua Beach. Kelawi Village has a fairly long coastline, namely 9.8 km long. With its long coastline, Kelawi Village also has diverse marine tourism potential.
Not only does Kelawi Village have exotic beaches, it also has a Green Canyon, Undersea Park, Jamara Waterfall, Khaja Saka Waterfall, Batu Alif and Lalay Cave. There is also a jumping spot that can stimulate adrenaline for travelers who like extreme tourism. All beaches in Kelawi Village are managed under the supervision of the Kelawi Mandiri Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) together with the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis).
Apart from that, Kelawi Village also has a strong agrotourism attraction. The reason is, this village is famous for its avocado and banana varieties which have patents and certification. In fact, avocado varieties are being focused on becoming the mainstay product of Kelawi Village.
BUMDes Kelawi Mandiri has maximized the agrotourism potential of avocado varieties which are in high demand on the market. One of them, he also said, was to implement the “1 Family Head (Head of Family), 2 Avocado Trees” program.
“Through this program, each family is asked to plant two avocado seedlings. And to help with seedlings, the village has also provided its own greenhouse. We are carrying out avocado cultivation on a massive scale so that we can meet market needs,” said the Head of BUMDes Kelawi Mandiri, Rian Haikal was quoted on Sunday (25/2/2024).
Apart from that, there are also other agrotourism products such as processed banana and anchovy products. These two products continue to be maximized by MSME players in Kelawi Village and have a positive impact on the economy.
He added that Kelawi Village is also implementing digitalization to facilitate all transactions at every tourist destination, starting from ticketing and BRI QRIS non-cash payments at MSME tenants.
“With this digitization, business owners can see a summary of financial transactions easily. They can also see how much money has gone in and out, as well as how much money is left in savings,” he said.
Take advantage of the Waste Bank
With various potential developments and innovations, Kelawi Village was awarded the 2023 Green BRILiaN Village award. This tourism potential is also maximized by the community who are also Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to encourage the economy. Some of the MSMEs in Kelawi Village are MSMEs for anchovy snacks and crafts produced from the Waste Bank.
“Kelawi Village is collaborating with BRI to overcome the waste problem by establishing a Waste Bank. From there, plastic waste from the sea is developed through a Waste Bank,” he said.
Thanks to this collaboration, the economic activity of the people of Kelawi Village has increased. Apart from that, this program can ultimately promote cleanliness, safety and comfort in the Kelawi Tourism Village.
“So from processing waste, there is an economic increase from the Waste Bank. And the proceeds from that go into the accounts of each Waste Bank customer and are directly saved at BRI,” he added.
On a separate occasion, BRI Micro Business Director Supari, revealed that BRILiaN Village is a village empowerment program which aims to produce role models in village development which was initiated by BRI as a form of agent of development in developing villages. By the end of 2023, there were 3,178 villages that had received BRILiaN Village empowerment.
The BRILiaN Village Program is empowerment based on a village ecosystem with 4 main pillars as key success indicators for empowerment, namely sustainability, digitalization, innovation and optimization of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDesa).
“BRI has a concept of empowering MSMEs end to end, namely empowerment from the basic phase to the development of a digital-based platform that can be a solution for developing the MSME ecosystem. “This aims to ensure that MSMEs have competitiveness and are able to adapt to the market,” concluded Supari.
