Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Senior comedian Mpok Atiek opens up about his recent health condition. The woman who always looked cheerful in her old age turned out to have a benign tumor in her intestines.
In the FYP Trans TV broadcast, Mpok Atiek was asked by Irfan Hakim about the tumor. Mpok Atiek's fear suddenly emerged, accompanied by trauma because his mother also experienced the same thing before she died.
Mpok Atiek said that the disease was diagnosed in his body around June 2023. Initially, Mpok Atiek felt pain in his stomach almost every day.
“At that time it was June, I had stomach discomfort every day. Sorry, my bowel movements didn't go smoothly for 3 days, 4 days. Finally, I went to see an internist, long story short, the internist referred me to a gastro (gastroenterologist) who had to do an endoscopy and colonoscopy. There were so many the polyp was in the intestine,” said Mpok Atiek, as quoted second.
In fact, the polyps had already been cleaned, but there was one that was large and had roots. However, because of his experience watching his mother die after surgery, Mpok Atiek chose alternative treatment.
“But, I'm afraid, because my mother died, she died after surgery for stomach cancer, colon cancer. So I'm afraid, now I'm going to Sinshe (alternative medicine),” said Mpok Atiek while crying.
Not a few people choose to go to alternative medicine because of critical illness. However, there are medical and financial losses that you must be aware of, here is a review.
Head of the Communications and Community Services Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that alternative medicine must still be supported by empirical research and based on scientific studies, so she asked the public to remain vigilant and careful when choosing to use alternative medicine rather than medical treatment.
“So, for example, if someone has cancer, don't let it be too late because of traditional treatment. Because there are methods that can cure 100 percent if treatment is carried out at an early stage,” said Nadia, as quoted by CNN (6/4/2023).
The Yale School of Medicine even revealed that the risk of death from alternative medicine is indeed higher than medical treatment if it is related to cancer.
Alternative treatments are not covered by insurance
Although the cost of alternative medicine is cheaper than medical treatment. However, be aware that this treatment cannot be covered by health insurance.
Just imagine, what would happen if dangerous side effects appeared and you had to undergo treatment because of these side effects. BPJS has also said that alternative and traditional treatments that have not been declared effective based on health technology assessments, will not be covered.
If the effect of alternative treatment actually causes the disease to spread, and in the end the person concerned has to be rushed to hospital, the financial burden borne will be even higher because treatment for critical illnesses is not cheap.
