Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The increase in single tuition fees (UKT) is being widely discussed. Many students and parents are demanding a review of the policy of increasing tuition fees.
Not a few students protested against the UKT increase. The Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology was asked to review Permendikbudriste Number 2 of 2024 concerning Standards for Higher Education Operational Costs, which is considered to be the root of the recent education cost problem.
This regulation is said to be vulnerable to interpretation by a number of state universities, especially regarding Single Tuition Fees (UKT).
Even the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, also received protests from members of Commission X DPR RI, during a meeting at the parliament building, Tuesday (21/5/2024). Those who think that determining UKT is considered too expensive.

“I think it needs to be explored (revisited) again (Permendikbudristek). So that it doesn't give rise to misinterpretation or multiple interpretations which then causes PTN to say it's not wrong (increasing the UKT) because the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation provides space,” he said at the Working Meeting
According to him, there are a number of articles in Permendikbudristek Number 2 of 2024 which are polemical and vulnerable to being interpreted arbitrarily. One of them, namely article 11 regarding UKT which is determined after prospective new students are accepted at university.
