Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, was officially sentenced to a suspension in the form of a ban from playing for four years after testing positive for doping.
Quoting from Sky Sports, the Italian National Anti-Doping Court (TNA) granted the request of the Anti-Doping Prosecutor's Office to impose punishment on Pogba in the form of a ban from playing for four years. Reportedly, this ban is a standard set by the World Anti-Doping Code (WADA).
Reportedly, the ban started when Pogba first tested positive for doping. Thus, the 30 year old player will be prohibited from playing on the football field until August 2027.
Responding to the punishment, the French national team player admitted that he would file an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, to provide complete information regarding the doping case that befell him.
In his statement, Pogba admitted that he was sad, shocked and heartbroken by the punishment handed down by TNA. He said TNA “had taken away” all the achievements he had built in his professional career in the world of football.
“Today I was informed about the decision of the Tribunale Nazionale Anti-Doping (TNA) and I am sure that the decision is not correct,” said Pogba, quoted Friday (1/3/2/2024).
“I am saddened, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken from me,” he added.
Pogba admitted that he had never knowingly or intentionally taken any supplements that violated anti-doping regulations. The player with the number 10 back said that he was committed not to use any substances to improve his performance on the field.
“As a professional athlete, I will never do anything to improve my performance by using prohibited substances. I have never insulted or deceived fellow athletes and supporters of any team I have ever played for or against,” said Pogba.
“As a consequence of the decision announced today, I will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport,” he continued.
Previously, Pogba was suspended as a precautionary measure in September 2023 after being found positive for testosterone metabolites in August 2023. At that time, Pogba failed a doping test on August 20 2023 after the opening match of Serie A (Italian League) this season, namely Juventus against Udinese.
Pogba tested positive for using Dehydroepiandrosterone or DHEA, a compound or substance that can increase hormone production in the body, including testosterone levels.
