Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk came to Indonesia last Sunday (19/5/2024). However, the arrival of the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was not to invest, but to launch the Starlink service in Indonesia.
Musk came to hand over the Starlink satellite-based internet service device to the Sumerta Kelod Community Health Center, Denpasar, Bali. This is a collaboration between Starlink and the Ministry of Health.
Musk's other agenda in Bali was to attend the World Water Forum 2024 the following day, Monday (20/5/2024). He took part in speeches and talked about water and the capabilities of solar energy.
However, there was no investment agenda at that time. At the event to give away the Starlink device, Musk only said he had a desire to invest but did not comment further.
“We will invest in Indonesia because this event is about Starlink, I think something like that [investasi] will be announced at another event,” Musk said. “We are very focused on Starlink [di Indonesia] because the benefits for society are very high, especially for connecting remote areas with internet services.”

He said it was important to connect every region in the country with internet access. This ensures that people's quality of life becomes even better.
“When you have advanced internet access, you can learn anything. You can access educational services such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) online, and learn what MIT people study,” he stressed.
At the same time, the Indonesian government is also trying to keep offering something to Musk. One of them asked to build an EV battery factory.
“We made an offer (to Elon Musk), could it be possible to build an EV battery factory here, a cathode precursor. And he will consider it,” explained Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, as reported by Reuters.
However, Musk was unwilling to respond to Luhut's invitation.
