Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Everyone makes mistakes at work. Although there are small mistakes that are easily forgotten the next day, there are also mistakes that can turn into career regrets.
The majority, 66% to be exact, of workers say they have work-related regrets, according to a recent report from Resume Now. The report surveyed 1,000 workers in the US, UK, France and Germany in January 2024.
Here are the 4 main regrets that most workers feel:
- Didn't ask for a raise (60%)
- Not prioritizing work-life balance (59%)
- Staying in one workplace too long (58%)
- Not negotiating salary for a new job (58%)
In general, most regrets stem from inaction and not action, he notes Resume Now in his report. For example, more people say they regret working too long at a company, compared to those who regret leaving their job (38%).
Before it's too late, you should prepare yourself to take action so you don't regret it later.
Asking for a raise can be tricky, but there are ways to be strategic. Start showing that you deserve a raise, several months before making an official request, says financial expert Ramit Sethi, as quoted by CNBC Make It.
