Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- In accordance with Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance, the government requires food and beverage products, slaughtering services, raw materials, food additives and auxiliary materials for food and beverage products including MSMEs to be halal certified by October 17 2024.
GAPMMI General Chair, Adhi S Lukman said that halal certification regulations for the food and beverage industry must be supported but it is still a difficult task so it needs to be anticipated by the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH).
GAPMMI stated that the number of food MSMEs reached 1.7 business units, while those with halal certification only reached 250 thousand in line with the still low level of socialization and awareness regarding halal certification. Entrepreneurs hope that the implementation of this policy will be implemented in stages and will not apply heavy sanctions so as not to disrupt MSME businesses.
In line with GAPMMI, the General Chairperson of AKUMANDIRI, Hermawati Setyorinny, also supports the halal certification policy, however there has been no massive socialization regarding the requirements and benefits. This condition makes small business actors panic and worry about being required to be halal and expect the best guidance and solutions from the government.
What is the readiness of the business sector to fulfill the mandatory halal regulations of 17 October 2024?
